Pro Ourodov I Lioudiei

Quinzaine 1998 | Feature film | 1 h 33

« I like extreme situations, they provoke style. » In the early years of the 20th century, two families live in Saint Petersburg in relative comfort. The first family is that of Dr. Stasov and his attractive but blind wife, Ekaterina Kirilovna. 17 years earlier they had adopted Siamese twins from Mongolia. The second is of more modest origins: the family of Radlov, a railroad engineer, and his daughter, Lisa, an innocent dreamer in her 20s. She hates only one person: their maid, Grunya, who be-came her father’s mistress when her mother died. Lisa also suspects her of having a secret li-aison with a certain Johann, the owner of a photo studio. Gradually, Johann insinuates himself into both families. With the help of two assistants, he takes and distributes S&M photos in his studio… A story of deeply human passions, shot in the style of turn-of-the-century photographs.
