O Drapetis

Fortnight 1991, Feature film, 2H11

Athens 1950. An era that presents a good number of similarities with today’s era. Antonis Barkas, celebrated creator of Karaghiozis (the greek shadow theater), watches this traditional art disappear. The public is slowly loosing interest in this form of art which is spreading rapidly in the cities and provincial towns. In his effort to stop time wich runs faster than him and his cardboard silhouettes, Barkas violently clashes with his entourage : his apprentice, torn between the Ancient and the New, chooses the latter, the singer of this travelling theater who will nevertheless remain faithfull until the end, and his sister, who lives in his shadow…
