L’Économie du couple

Fortnight 2016, Feature film, 1h38

After 15 years of living together, Marie and Boris decide to get a divorce. Marie had bought the house in which they live with their two daughters, but it was Boris who had completely renovated it. Since he cannot afford to find another place to live, they must continue to share it. When all is said and done, neither of the two is willing to give up.

Joachim Lafosse

Joachim Lafosse was born in Brussels in 1975. After receiving his diploma from the IAD (Institut des Arts de Diffusion), he directed his first feature film, Private Madness, selected for competition at Locarno, in 2004. In 2006, he made two features, Ça Rend Heureux (in competition at Locarno, and Grand Prix du Jury of the Premiers Festival Plans of Angers) and Private Property with Isabelle Huppert (in competition at Venice). In 2007 his fourth feature, Private Lessons was shown in the Directors’ Fortnight. Joachim Lafosse’s career has gathered speed with each new film, and with this momentum has come national and international recognition: Our Children was selected for Un Certain Regard and won Best Actress for Emilie Dequenne. In 2015, he made White Knights with a top tier cast (Vincent Lindon, Louise Bourgoin, Valérie Donzelli and Reda Kateb). The film was presented at Toronto and won Best Director at San Sebastian.
