Desperatly Seeking Susan

Fortnight 1985, Feature film, 1h44

Synopsis

I am interested in the way we live now and the conflicts in American Culture. Desperately Seeking Susan shows two different worlds: Bohemia and Suburba, and I tried to look at them both from a satirical point of view. The film is also about two different women: Susan, the « bad girl », and Roberta the « good girl » who is stuck in her environment and feels she wants to be some place else. I identify with both characters and I was intrigued by the idea of a woman becoming so obsessed with another woman that she takes on her identity. It is a fairy tale like Alice in Wonderland. An innocent sees a curious creature and follows her into another world. Susan Seidelman
