He was born in Great Britain ( Leicester ). He assisted Karel Reisz, Albert Finney and Lindsay Anderson. He was a director for TV ( 21 films in 15 years ). His most famous dramas were A Day Out, Long Distance Information and December Flower, for example. He started working for cinema in 1971 when he made Gumshoe; he then directed The Hit, shown at The Directors’ Frotnight in 1984. He was successful with My Beautiful Laundrette. He recently made two full length feature films in the USA. He came back in Great Britain with The Snapper.
