He was born in Pittsbug. He studied drama at the Lovelace puppets Theater and at the Philipps Academy, Andover, and in Japan, China and India. He headed the Boston Shakespeare Company and the American National Theater at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC. He directed more than 100 shows in theaters in the USA and all over the world. He worked at the Los Angeles festival. He directed operas. His shows are made of poetry, music, dance, drama, visual arts, cinema and video. His series Mozart-Da Ponte was shown in New York, Boston, Paris and Vienna. He directed operas of John Adams and Alice Goodman. He was member of the Wooster group and directed king Lear in collaboration with Jean-Luc Godard. He performed in movies for TV. He worked in radio. He did lectures in Yale, Georgetown, Northwestern, cal Arts etc The Cabinet of dr Ramirez is his first film. He was recently completing the writing of an essay on contemporary show ( Harper and Row publishing ).
