He studied direction and made his first short film in 1975. In 1979, he directed Les Bonshommes, which won the Best comedy prize in the Mosfilm studios festival. He started writing screenplays in 1980 with Alexandre Borodianski for Les Dames engagent les cavaliers. He also wrote novels like Les jeunes dirigeables and Garçon de courses he adapted on screen in 1986. Ville zéro is his fifth full length film.
