He graduated at the Antioch College and in the UCLA. He worked as a director, a screen writer, a cameraman and an editor on many educational or corporate films. He was a teacher. In 1975, he decided to dedicate only to direction. His three first feature films were shown at The Directors' Fortnight. Ruby in Paradise won in 1993 the Grand Prize in Sundance.
