The 44th Directors’ Fortnight, organized by the Film Directors’ Guild (Société des Réalisateurs de Films, SRF), will take place May 17 – 27, 2012, as part of the Cannes Festival.
These regulations and entry form are only valid for the Directors' Fortnight selection.
Selections for other sections of the Cannes Film Festival (Competition, Out of competition, Un Certain Regard and Critics'Week) are processed by distinct entities.

REGULATIONS
ARTICLE 1. SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS.
Except special cases, all films submitted for the Directors' Fortnight must fulfill the following requirements:
1- Films must have been made during the 12 months preceding the festival.
2 - Films must not have been shown on the Internet.
3- Films must not have been broadcasted on TV or commercially released in France. With the exception of foreign films in their country of origin, they should not have been presented at any international festival or film event (except in the context of a film market). A selection is international if it presents films from different countries.
(This point does not concern the short film category (running time under 60 minutes).
4 - For the presentation in Cannes, if the film is selected, films should be in 35 mm format or DCP.
ARTICLE 2. SELECTION.
The films screened during the Directors' Fortnight are selected under the responsibility of the Artistic Director, who is appointed by the board of directors of the Film Directors' Guild.
ARTICLE 3. INSCRIPTION.
Registrations opening: December 1st, 2011.Registration deadline: March 23rd, 2012. Films submitted for preselection must be received by April 13rd, 2012 (for shorts, DVD will be the only material considered).
For a film to be considered fo preselection, it must have:
- No subtitles if the original language is French or English.-
- French or English subtitles for all other original languages.
ARTICLE 4. REGISTRATION FEES.
Any submission of a feature film - whatever the format sent for the preselection screening - must include payment of entry fee of € 120 (one hundred and twenty euros).
Short films (running under 60 mn) are exempt from these fees.
The payment can be made:
- through secured on-line payment at the time of the registration (only payment by credit card such as: Visa, Mastercard / Eurocard, and American Express is accepted)
- by bank transfer: Banque Neuflize OBC - 3 avenue Hoche - 75008 Paris - France, name of account: Société des Réalisateurs de Films - Quinzaine des Réalisateurs - IBAN/Swift : FR76 3078 8009 0001 1036 0000 221 - BIC : NSMBFRPPXXX)
- by check (only if drawn from a French bank) payable to Quinzaine des Réalisateurs and included with the print or tape.
All payments must clearly indicate the title of the film.
The preselection screening will be organized after the entry fees are paid. Entry fees are not refundable.
ARTICLE 5. PRESELECTION
5.1 - FILMS PRINTS.
Prints of foreign films (Except European Union) are admitted into France under temporary admittance. They must be shipped prepaid to the Directors' Fortnight shipping agent:

Prints must be returned by the same shipping agent.
To send the 35mm films prints of European Union, please contact the Film Department.
5.2 - DVDs.
DVDs must be sent directly to the Directors' Fortnight office in Paris at: Quinzaine des Réalisateurs, Bureau des Films, 14 rue Alexandre Parodi, 75010 Paris, France, with the mention "For cultural use only" and "With no commercial value".
If a DVD is sent through an express delivery service, all shipping costs, custom duties and taxes in France must be paid by the sender (this must be mentioned on shipping forms).
Any DVDs sent to the Directors' Fortnight office for preselection will be returned to the sender only upon written request. This request must be received by the Directors' Fortnight office no later than June 30, 2012. After that date, all materials submitted for preselection will be destroyed by the Directors' Fortnight.
5.3 - OTHER SCREENING MATERIALS
For all other support, please contact the Film Department.
ARTICLE 6. PRESELECTION - SHIPPING AND INSURANCE.
For all the films sent to the Directors' Fortnight for preselection, all shipping and return shipping, insurance costs as well as custom taxes and fees - and print transport in Paris, are to be paid for by the sender.
In case of loss or damage to a print, the insurance company of the Directors' Fortnight will reimburse an amount not exceeding the value of the lab print.
ARTICLE 7. SELECTION - SUBTITLING.
If your film is selected you will be asked to provide a 35 mm film print or a DCP (Digital Cinema Package): Server JPEG 2000.
Films selected by the Directors' Fortnight are screened in Cannes with French subtitles (for foreign films) and English subtitles (for French films). Subtitling is at the producer's charge.
The producer must provide English and/or French subtitle files to Titra Film labs, commissioned by the Directors' Fortnight to provide electronic subtitling of the official screenings (in English for foreign films in languages other than French or English).
ARTICLE 8. SELECTION - SHIPPING AND INSURANCE.
For officially selected films, only transport costs between screening locations during the Festival are covered by the Directors' Fortnight. This does not include screenings organized by the producer or rights owner of a film. Storage and insurance costs at the cinema where the screenings are held in Paris (for pre-selection) and in Cannes are also covered by the Directors' Fortnight.
In case of loss or damage to a print, the insurance company of the Directors' Fortnight will reimburse an amount not exceeding the value of the lab print.
ARTICLE 9. SELECTION - MATERIAL.
Information on each selected film to appear in the catalogue must be sent later on to the Directors' Fortnight office in Paris. a DVD of the film as well as a subtitle list and TV clips must be delivered before the Festival. The TV clips are used by TV channels during the Festival, and later only if authorized by the producer.
Films screened at the Directors' Fortnight must be in 35 mm film print or DCP only, technically excellent with readable subtitles.
As a promotional means for the entire selection, the Directors' Fortnight website may, for as long as it wishes, use any photo or digital film clip not exceeding three minutes.
ARTICLE 10. SCHEDULES.
Dates, times and locations of screenings during the Festival will be given to the participants in May, 2012.
If the Directors' Fortnight wishes, a press screening of a selected film can be organized prior to the festival. No opposition by the rights owner is possible.
During the Festival, selected films may not be screened elsewhere in Cannes before their official presentation at the Directors' Fortnight, at the risk of being excluded from the event.
ARTICLE 11. AWARDS.
All first features presented at the Directors' Fortnight are eligible for the Caméra d'Or prize, awarded during the official award ceremony of the Cannes Film Festival.
The films presented at the Directors' Fortnight are also eligible for the following prizes (based on criteria set by each partner association): the SACD prize, the Label Europa Cinemas and the Art Cinema Award.
ARTICLE 12. REPEAT SCREENINGS.
Screenings of selected films are held at the Directors' Fortnight in Cannes, and traditionally receive repeat screenings in Paris, in Marseille, Rome, Milan and Bruxelles, and this without any exception .
The producer must inform his sales agent, his French distributor and the distributor of the repeat screening country of these obligatory repeat screenings.
ARTICLE 13. PROMOTION MATERIAL.
For the commercial release in any country of a film selected at the Directors' Fortnight, all promotional materials (posters, trailers, etc.) must include the logo of the "Quinzaine des Réalisateurs (Directors' Fortnight)," which can be downloaded from our website.
ARTICLE 14. RESPONSABILITIES OF THE ORGANIZERS.
The Directors' Fortnight reserves the right to use all data from registration forms as provided for by the law nº78.17 of 6 January 1978 (In accordance with the data-processing, files and freedoms act, any participant has the right to access and correct only data concerning him. This right is exercised by the Film Directors' Guild.
The Directors' Fortnight declines any responsibility for registration applications not received. The board of directors of the Film Directors' Guild (Société des Réalisateurs de Films, SRF) has the right to settle all cases not provided for in the present regulations. It reserves the right to suspend, cancel, or postpone the event or to modify the regulations, at any time, according to the requirements of its exploitation. No compensation of any kind can be made to the participants. Participation in The Directors' Fortnight implies acceptance of the afore mentioned regulations.
