As the result of a minor incident, a bored young Cuban postal clerk named Carla begins to rewrite the letters that pass through her hands daily: for her, it's another way of aiding her peers and finding happiness. When she becomes one of the lucky winners in the annual lottery of American visas, a new horizon opens (flee the routine, get out, emigrate to the United States), Carla realizes the choice is not easy to make.
