"The desire to film Soloko, life, life on earth, as well as the desire to travel . All the more so because the year 2000 is nearly upon us and nothing will have changed for the better, you know that better than I do ." On the eve of the year 2000, French-based Mau-ritanian director Abderrahmane Sissako returns to Sokolo, a small village in Mali, to see his father. He meets Nana, a young girl who is also passing through. He wanders the streets, the squares, the post, the fields. It's the beginning of meditation on the ever-turbulent relations between Africa and Europe as village life goes on...
