Born in 1938, Johan van der Keuken started to experiment with photography at the age of 12. Five years later, in 1955, he published his first book of photos, We Are 17. He made his first films after attending the Idhec film school in Paris. Around the same time, his first writings about films and photography began to appear in Dutch magazines. In 1977, he began to write a column in the film review, Skrien, From the World of the Self-Employed. In addition to his many films, he published several books of photos and prepared many installations and exhibitions. He died in January 2001.
