For me, Amerika, Terra incognita is the end of the work I started in 1979, when I decided to make a trilogy on the history of my country, and at the same time, on that of South America. The first part of the trilogy was Bolivar, Sinfonia Tropikal, which was about independence in 1800. This was followed by Orinoko, Nuevo Mundo which concerns the mythical and the real history of our great river, from before the conquest of America until the end of the 17 th century. Amerika, Terra incognita, the third part, tells the story of a conquistador who returns to Europe with treasures from the New World: gold nuggets, emeralds, tropical fruits, parrots, plants, animals and... a man, an Indian chief. Of course, the European court is filled with wonder at this indigenous, surrounded by music, artist, nuns and jugglers. The princess falls immediatly in love with this man with exotic charms. From this union, the first bastard prince of a European court is born, and he comes to the world covered in gold. In think that after 500 other versions, it is now up to us to tell our version of the facts. I want to dedicate this work to the great masters of Latin-American cinema, Glauber Rocha and Fernando Birri. Diego Risquez
