Ten years ago, I was researching music for Glauber Rocha's "Deus e o Diabo na terra do sol", when I discovered the story that beame the theme of "A Noite Do Espantalho". It's a true story about the Sertao, Brazil's North East area. I loved the "Cinema Novo" and took part in the movement. But I wanted to include less literate people, so I researched other forms of languages, to try and translate them in cinema. No producer would venture to finance my project. I tried for 10 years, meanwhile making less radical films. I eventually created a production company with my borther to be able to make the film : we took a chance, and here is the result : "A Noite Do Espantalho". Sergio Ricardo
