Le droit du plus fort
...If one wants, it is a conspiracy - not the kind of conspiracy where people join together against someone, but rather like the triump of "the capital's point of view". It is not a concerted action, but simply what happens in the everyday life... In my opinion, he fact that the film is about homosexuals is fortuitous, and we don't give a damn about it. The same story could have happened to other people. But I think on the contrary that the audience will be more attentive that if it had been about a "normal" love story because the melodramatic side would be really stronger in this case. I believe that at some point, the public forget that they are homosexuals. Afterwards though, thay will ask themselves : what did we just see, after all ? We saw a story about two people who are to us abnormal. We are disconcerted and the shock makes us see the story in a different light. I played this part for only one reason : to show that I identify to the characters. Interview extract of Rainer Werner FASSBINDER
