He was born in Iceland. After studying philosophy and clinical psychology, she went to FEMIS, in Paris and directed his first short films. She directed 4 films wavering between documentary and fiction. She then made many documentaries. Her work was early acclaimed with movies suh as Que eprsonne ne bouge! (1998) ( Grand Prize of the Jury and of public in the international women film festival of Créteil (France) ) or Haut les Coeurs! She kept on making films in France, Iceland and USA. Her first feature film aut les coeurs! is successful: it deals with her own experience of illness; Karin Viard won a Cesar for best actress. She made other documentaries for television and cinema. Her second feature film, Stormy Weather, with Elodie Bouchez, was shot in Vestmannaeyjar, where she was born.
