Le Décolleté Dans Le Dos
The world needs poetry. Now. It is an universal language for all people : rich and poor, all colors, all religions and all political opinions. They will understand my ideas which I have developped over nine years since my last long feature. Maybe because I was forbidden to shoot films in my home country, it sped up my mental process. I was born in 1936 so I decided to make a film about this time period. The dangers of Hitlerism is still alive. The same kind of attitudes still prevails : selfishness, indifference, cruelty. The castle in my film is a melting-pot where different nationalities represent the outside world. Their private fates are actually the Fate of the entire world. I feel I have something to say, I feel I have said it and done so in both an entertaining and interesting way. As a fringe benefit - it was a privilege and a great joy to make my first film in the "Free world".
