"Observe and objectively relate the life of the little people." In a military barracks in the north of France, Nicolas and Thierry, both 20, are completing their military service. They'd like careers in the army, especially to avoid unemployment. Unfortunately for them, the French army, in the interest of professionalization and modernization, isn't recruiting young people without high school diplomas. They end up back in civilian life, depressed and without plans for the future. Bound by a long friendship and determined not to go home to their parents, they take refuge in a coastal camping site. For everybody else, it's only the start of the summer season, but for Nicolas and Thierry, it's the beginning of a serious crisis: their painful initiation into the adult world, a time of major resolutions and harsh disappointments.
