Directors' Fortnight 1989

Another move: the screenings are now divided between the Debussy auditorium at the new Palais des Festivals and the Arcades theater.

In the Fortnight catalogue, Roberto Benigni has no qualms about awarding himself the Palme d'Or without waiting for the end of the festival: "The director (...) wishes to thank (...) the jury for having found in Il Poccolo Diavolo two of the greatest human virtues: modesty and humility"(!)
