Certain films presented during the 1970 edition have gone on to enjoy commercial success, such as Liliana Cavani's Cannibali and Joachim Pedro de Andrade's Macunaima. The Fortnight has found its place.
There are fights to get into the Français theater to see Dusan Makavejev's WR: Mysteries of the Organism. The film, which just barely escaped the censors in Belgrade, receives seven additional screenings at Cannes, but it will end up being banned for more than 15 years in its native Yugoslavia.
Fortnight films include George Lucas's THX-1138, Alain Tanner's La Salamandre, and Volker Schlondorff's, The Sudden Wealth of the Poor People of Kombach.
